I believe that the implementation of the state guidelines for testing all students in my professional practice represents distinguished performance in Domain I, Planning and Preparation, Component 1c: setting instructional outcomes because this is the format and requirements that all school test coordinators must abide by during testing, and hence, must know. I need to continue to adjust this outcome based on the ongoing instruction and participation with the State through workshops, webexs, and feedback that we give the state related to the state/county testing program. It is through this interaction that we gain a complete expectation of what the state is looking for and how we can make these expectations work at APS.Peter Weilenman

I believe that the implementation of workshop activities and materials in building science content knowledge and reasoning in my professional practice represents distinguished performance in Domain I, Planning and Preparation, Component 1d: Demonstrating knowledge of resources for stage 3, UDB curriculum design including NASA materials, Arlington Community Foundation grant materials, VA wildlife mapping protocols, Chesapeake Bay Foundation volunteer grass growing program and NEED solar energy workshop materials. I believe that the implementation of PLC groups for elementary reading specialists in my professional practice represents distinguished level performance in Domain 1, Planning and Preparation, Component d, demonstrating knowledge of service resources because it requires specialized knowledge and expertise on the topic being presented. In addition, I am asked to evaluate and select current, research-based resources (anchor texts, professional articles, instructional practices/models). In this role. I also model best practices as well as plan and facilitate each session over the school year. PLC group topics are determined based on a professional needs survey and then participation is by teacher choice. Gayle Kelley

1e: Designing coherent instruction
I believe that the implementation of content academies in my professional practice represents distinguished level performance in Domain 1, Planning and Preparation, Component because it represents the integration of the best practices culled from my History Alive training and years in the classroom with a new content area. It also represents an effort on my part to move 4th grade teachers to utilize a variety of resources beyond the textbook and the topic selection that I created content academy sessions for was a direct result of teacher survey. This shows my planning and preparation in meeting the needs of the teachers I work with. Cathy Hix

I believe that the implementation of the ELA Secondary Professional Development Groups represents distinguished level performance in Domain 1, Planning and Preparation, Component e, planning the instructional support program, integrated with the overall school or district program because I designed the model to reflect the needs of the students as reflected by district data and the needs of the teachers as reflected by their perceived professional development needs. In addition, creating the schedule for the concurrent middle and high school groups, along with the details of reviewing, deciding upon, securing and providing the collegial professional learning groups with anchor texts to guide their learning for the year is a complex process that reflects distinguished level performance. I approached my supervisor about moving to this model that utilizes countywide Wednesdays for professional development because teachers were sharing through exit tickets and a teacher survey that they didn't feel we needed another approach to professional development. I believe this model has been successful in that teachers' responses now reflect a much higher level of satisfaction with professional development. I believe this is in large part to due to the long process involved regarding scheduling, determining group topics each year, and reviewing and deciding on anchor texts.
